There is a local comic store to me www.cavecomics.com and I remember the owner once relating a story to me of how he purchased one of the early issues of Batman (he's a huge Batman fan) and had to hide it from his wife until he could figure out a way to explain to her that it WAS worth more then a new car...
Batman had at least two crap movies to clean up after. Superman may have had more, but they both had cleaning to do. At least Superman movies never had Ahhnold in them.
That's because DC was around earlier in the comics game. Marvel existed as Timely before, but Golden Age comics are older and more rare than Silver Age comics (when Marvel got in the game). You'll notice that of the three most prominent characters that were absorbed into early Marvel (Human Torch, Namor, and Captain America), two of them are in there. Not a bad ratio.Since debuting with Fantastic Four, Marvel has consistently outsold DC.

Of course the real problem is finding a buyer who will pay $440,000. It's not like this is Star Trek furniture.

All of these comics came out of New York City between 1938 and 1940. Hmmm....
