Uuuggghhh, this thing is SOOO old. "Macintosh" doesn't make computers, APPLE makes Macs! And, these days, ANYTHING a PC can do, a Mac can - including run Windows!
1990 Jetta with 220,000 miles on the clock gets about 30 mpg city driving, about 35 on the highway at 60 mph (not that often *ahem*). Regular maintenance and tire pressures help.
I think it's unfair that this list excludes trucks like the Ford Escape Hybrid. Why isn't the Ford Escape Hybrid on the list?It is EPA rated at 36 mpg city 31 highway according to http://www.fordvehicles.com/escapehybrid/home/Using their 45% highway & 55% city driving formula, the Escape Hybrid should come in at #8 - Even I'm amazed that it beats out the Honda Civic, a vehicle synonymous for having excellent fuel economy.Of all the vehicles on the list (and one not there), the Ford Escape still seems like it would be the most practical.
"From the wiki "Diesel engines are more efficient than gasoline (petrol) engines of the same power, resulting in lower fuel consumption. A common margin is 40% more miles per gallon for an efficient turbo diesel""Then why not make a hybrid diesel/electric?...or etanol/electric?
