Clinical studies have proven that aspartame breaks down to it's basic components and is digested just like anything else. For it to be toxic to the body you would have to consume gargantuan amounts. Aspartame is great for diabetics who have trouble controlling blood sugar because it's a non-coloric sweetener. So really, aspartame is a healthy alternative.
