Its true, a lot of the "accidental discovery" stories are false.

I remember reading that Coca-Cola was an accident. It was a medicine John Pemberton had concocted, but accidentally put carbinated water in. According to Wikipedia's entry on Coke, it was intentional, but I dunno.
