engadget.com — True, it's not the first app offering turn-by-turn driving instructions for the iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS -- but it is from TomTom, an industry heavy-weight that is finally delivering on years of rumor and speculation.

Erm, what? It defaults to using your current position as "From" when you select "Driving Directions". There's nothing to change.Maybe you should try a recent version. The latest is 1.2.7, and they're supposed to get version 2.0 into the official App Store this September.

Really? I put countermeasures in my apps for people just like you. In fact, I spend far too much time dreaming up ways to make my apps appear to run normally while they are misbehaving in the most devious and unpleasant way. I know I should be spending that time improving my apps. But there is nothing like knowing that some bastard too cheap to spend 99 cents just got his contacts rearranged.

AT&T doesn't even figure into this. Shut up. The concerns on the price and limits on functionality are justified.

We did a roadtrip in Europe this summer. Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands. The TomTom was our only map and guidance system. To this day, I can think of only one road that was incorrectly marked that caused us problems. Having seen a TomTom in action, the things I didn't like were1) Its long startup time after it had been moved when turned off2) Solutions for tunnels were extremely poor, often defaulting to the beginning of the tunnel before you reached the exit (making decisions about turns after that painful)And with that said, this App is easily worth a 100 if not twice that, assuming it can do what a tomtom does. It is a marvellous. Once released, I am certain I will never ever get lost again as long as I still have battery on my phone (and I knew where I was going).

There is a pretty prominent link called "Help and Wiki" on the left hand side of the page. Maybe that might hold some of the answers you seek ;-)
