fadtastic.net — Earlier this year, Microsoft released betas of Office 2007, and the first thing reviewers noticed, besides the new interface, was that Times New Roman had been deposed as the default font with something called . . . Calibri? But what will happen to Times New Roman?

@jonomAgreed. Just look at any blog (or this site, even).

I was skeptical about Microsoft's new w?nderfonts, but after getting a copy and trying them out in OS X I've been convinced. Too bad I can't use them for anything outside my own machine since nobody else has them.Hopefully MS will be including them with the next version of Office for OS X.

I believe it means "evil monopoly with crappy products" in Somali.

@stmiller: Roman capital forms predate the monks, though you're right about the lower case, which evolved from the uncial and semiuncial hands by way of Carolingian. That is still a major oversimplification; modern "Roman" letter forms are influenced by the technology of movable type--for example, the serifs are not those of the original carved Roman letters. If you want a fuller explanation, check out the old but still good _The 26 Letters_ by Oscar Ogg.

I'm all about Futura. Stanley Kubrick's favorite font people.

Seriously, am I the only one here that thinks "Digg is a tech site, yes, but, I mean - its just a font!"I didn't even know they had standards as to the default font. Hmm. Learn something new everyday. PS: I like Tahoma

>>by Bradl3y >>Microsoft tried to rename the frutiger font and take it as their own and copyright it...You don't know what you're talking about, jackass. Microsoft doesn't even make fonts. They contract others to do it.

i think setting a screen font to be default shows tat most ppl dun print their stuff. they rather circulate them? i did loads of word docs for my project but all were kept online~

Does it get any more geekier than talk of fonts?

Generally, I prefer Kochi Gothic, although I'm currently using "Sans Serif" in KDE. If it was openly available, GE Inspira looks like it could be a fairly good screen font, that happens to have a large number of glyphs for other European languages (e.g. German and French), that happen to be lacking from Kochi Gothic.

I'd be a shame to see the Times New Roman font die but I'd be in favor of seeing Comic Sans Die:http://www.fontreviews.com/post/2007/11/Comic-Sans ...
