dslreports.com — Time Warner today implemented a network management tool to improve the operation of the network for all subscribers. As a result, a small minority of users may experience slower speeds during peak hours when using certain applications that consume lots of bandwidth. You can address this situation by reducing your use of bandwidth-intensive ...

@p0rk917Actually, I upgraded to FIOS from Road Runner, and my speed is now 20mbit down, 5mbit up. Which is 2 times the speed of RR down, and 10 times faster up. Further, FIOS is a dedicated unshared line, so you get the speed you pay for, whereas RR is shared with your neighbors.@TheSourceCall up Verizon and check again, I live in NYC and FIOS is being offered in many more neighborhoods everyday.

And so begins the death of network neutrality, brought to you by the fascist-corporatist pigz, of course.FTFA: "The Road Runner service may not be used to engage in any conduct thatinterferes with Road Runner's ability to provide service to others, including the use of excessive bandwidth. "After years of selling their service priced according to a claimed maximum speed (which nobody ever actually gets), now they are going to penalize people who use a lot of bandwidth, even though they still NEVER can get close to the bandwidth they are paying for. It is time to tell everyone you know who uses AOL-Time -Warner products to just drop them. There is no end to the greed of these criminals!

TW foolishly opened a crack in their monopoly. The problem with a monopoly like TW is that you have to wait for them to self-destruct before others can enter the market. It was hard to deliver something better than 5120/384 at the same price point as TW, but they just made it easier today. I look forward to a better Internet with the cable companies relegated back to where they belong - selling soap operas and late night commercials for slicers/dicers .

Stealth Upgrade wolf in sheep's clothing from packet shapingI was pretty amazed when Time Warner upped my internet package from 8mb/768k to 15mb/2mb... heck it's not only the same price, but they didn't even tell me lol.Premier became Turbo but it's still the same package. I've been waiting for them to get with the Extreme package scene for several years now and this just made me a very happy customer.Until I found out about packet shaping which actually slowed my speeds down considerably.Amazing. Time Warner upgrades the service so it's the same price, and they tell you bigger numbers, but the result is actually much slower speeds.Looks like they can now sell you a glass of soda and just fill it to whatever they want to these days.I'm amazed they can even get away with this. If I had options I'd jump ship today.

I'll be switching from Time-Warner once I see evidence of this happening to me.

Just want to point out that with all their high bandwidth, most of the sites worth going to are in the US and Europe. That bandwidth doesn't help, they still have to wait forever for our pages to load for them. Also many sites are implementing bandwidth caps which lock you to only 200kbps, making all that extra bandwidth worthless unless your multitasking. (IE: bittorrent download, HD Webcam, Skype, FTP, YouTube, and browsing at the same time)

Yeah this sucks big time. 50 kb/s for all newsgroups, torrents, and P2P.I am using encryption and even tried using SSH tunnel and still it is shaped. :(

It's called "Speed Boost"It should be called "Finally giving you the bandwidth that your already paying for".
