time.com — Apple's new iPhone could do to the cell phone market what the iPod did to the portable music player market: crush it pitilessly beneath the weight of its own superiority. This is unfortunate for anybody else who makes cell phones, but it's good news for those of us who use them.

I liked how this was put together. More than just an iPhone review, they actually try to analyze Steve Jobs methodology behind all these big fanfare announcements.

It's more hype then anything. It's not going to replace the Blackberry or the Treo.I mean, their target market penetration is 1 friggin percent. 1%. The iPod became enormously popular because it fulfilled a niche that other companies mysteriously ignored (esp. Sony). The iPhone has no such niche and is basically riding on the iPod's coat tails. This stinks of another PS3.

This one is the best overall summary IMO.

Can't be any worse than typing on a RAZR (which I own), and people seem to buy those in droves.

Very few products generate such emotion from people like Apple products. Macs were both revered and reviled when they were introduced. The iPod was both "destined to succeed" and "doomed to failure" on its loaunch. The iPhone seems to already be following along that path. Why?because, love it or hate it, we are all TALKING ABOUT IT!Everybody here has an opinion about the iPhone, and everybody here is voicing that opinion. The more buzz over the iPhone, the more attention it gets, and the more potential buyers become aware of it. So, everyone talking about the iPhone, even the people who truly hate it, are doing their part to increase awareness (and therefore, sales) of the phone, whether they mean to or not. Thanks for doing your part to drive early adoption. I'll be buying in a couple of years when the price comes down.
