While this is obviously an oppressive and draconian law, readers here seem to want to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Islam represents over a billion people worldwide, a huge variety of cultures and practices, not easily summed up the way people here want to. I'm an atheist, but I believe in the value of islam, if obviously not for the specific religious beliefs but for the contributions islamic culture has made to humanity over hundreds of years in terms of art, music, language, math, science, medicine, and others. Condemn specific laws and practices that are oppressive, not a worldwide culture.
