tivo.com — TiVo is having a promotion where for $83.40 you get the 80 hour box with a full year of service. You can also get the 80 hour dual tuner box with 1 year of service for only $155.40. This is a great deal for people looking to get a Series2 TiVo.

I tried the PC route - no comparison....the video was weird looking - the Fans were annoying. Getting all the cords situated was a nightmare. It was cool but not ready for primetime.

@TweidleYou dont need to apologize for choosing the commercial option when the DIY option is more expensive and not as good.

Yes you can transfer to your pc if you download Tivo Server and connect the Tivo to your network. I moved without any service fees, you just have to reset up the box.

If anyone currently has a Tivo with the old $12.95/month plan, you should call them up and say your cable company has a better off going. They might offer you $6.95 a month (as long as you don't have 2 Tivos, the 2nd being already discounted). Many people, including myself, have done this. It took 2 calls to them, but it worked.Reference thread:http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.php?catid=18&threadid=387215(the link is f*cked for some reason.. just copy/paste)

Speaking as the owner of 3 TiVos with lifetime subscriptions, Each with lifetime subscriptions that have paid for themselves and the original purchase price.having owned and dumped ReplayTv, and toyed with MythTV. Tivo still has the best UI and best bang for the buck when it comes to unreadability. Standard Tivos, not the crippled versions that lock you into a particular provider (ex: Directivo)I would continue to support Tivo were it not for the fact that I can no longer buy a lifetime subscription for any new Tivo. Despite the positive I've said things about Tivo, they lost me as a loyal customer when they dropped lifetime as a subscription option.

Got my tivo in on friday, I LOVE IT! However its been recording things I have not asked it to record... is this normal? All my settings are correct, but it records random s**t like Spongebob and some stuff on cartoon network...

Yes it's normal. It's Tivo suggestions, just find it and change the option telling it to not record Tivo suggestions.

You can either turn off Tivo Suggests or if you use the thumbs up and down to tell tivo what programs you like and dislike, it will use this information to make better suggestions. Just go through the guide and select programs and pres thumbs up or down to label them. Press more than once to give one, two or three thumbs.

We bought this and it worked fine - no problems - not a scam. Any questions, ask me. I think it's worth it to buy the dual tuner. We bought the single tuner, and if I could upgrade now for $70, I would definitely do it.
