I prefer real books as well, but For traveling, I could use one of these. I took a recent road trip of thirteen hours each way, and packed eighteen books. That took up some space, let me tell you.

"I would 100% carry an e-book reader (small) and a netbook."$250 for a Kindle + $350 for a netbook ... or ... $600 for a general purpose, multi-touch tablet. Hopefully, we'll soon have the opportunity to choose. The fact that my post is getting dugg down is not too discouraging. I got the same reaction years ago when I tried to tell people that PDAs wouldn't last.

"... me i dont think so."We should know if you're right or wrong within 2 weeks. If Apple has a tablet in the works, they'll most likely show it at CES in Vegas, Jan. 7-10.

They'll adjust the price to fit their marketplace goals ... and so will the suppliers of the touchscreen components. Apple dropped the price of iPhone just a few months after the initial release, before there was any serious competition. In electronics, volume and cost are inversely related. Higher volume = lower cost. If Apple buys lots of touchscreen components, that fact alone will make the components cheaper --- just like it did with the iPhone. Once competitors start buying also, then the price drops even further.Sure, it'll all take some time ... but there are no hurdles that can't be easily overcome. Multi-touch tablets are coming ... in a big way ... just like the iPhone.

Well, ePub is the standard, but the biggest player (kindle) doesn't support it :( Now we just need to lose the DRM and lower the prices to around $5 :/Until then, Project Gutenberg, Google Books, and Feedbooks :D
