businessweek.com— What?! You mean to tell me that Dell has cut costs so much that they might have sacrificed customer service or even product quality?! Say it isn't so!Nelson voice: "Ha Ha"

"Dell should sell off their assets and give the money to the shareholders..."That is excellent... I doubt many will get the reference though. The fact is that vendors like Apple and Sony that have actual value added systems are the only ones that have a chance against Chinese boxes. Dell is a fading star, no 2 ways about it.
They should just not offer support. If you've bought Dell for a long time and haven't notice the decline in the quality of the support experience since they offshored you're either extremely rude yourself or some other variety of braindead assh**e.I just don't buy Dell anymore, you can buy commodity hardware from anyone these days. On a side note, I called AppleCare the other day... their products are s**t for quality and ridiculously priced, but talking to an American on the phone for support was so refreshing I think I jizzed.
Diggbuddy:Dell is handling it the best they can, they have a new rev. of the board and is replaing maxtor ussally with other manufacs. they are really good at testing parts, the mobos will not show problems till hours of use. and hdd well, um they are buying in bulk, like alot!!! at a time, the ratio of failure per sale is not big.. i'm typing this on my dell insp 6000 and well i love it, it;s easy to work on, easy to upgrade, and i have a 3 yr onsite with complete care.. dell is awesome you just have to know how to work with customer upport.. if they annoy you hang up and call back. you will get some one else... i know the dell support loopholes it's not hard getting a system exg. and the cool thing is, if the model is not made any more they will upgrade you.. yes they have a quality system, but it's not the same you havn't seen what people put these system though.. you hear all these horror stories, most have no idea what they are doing..
"My 3 year old compaq with an upgraded cpu (XP 2400+, more ram 1GB, and a Radeon 9600XT 256MB handles everygame out there including Quake 4 and ESPECIALLY CALL OF DUTY 2 runs at 1280x1024 with 100+ FPS all settings on high so either I have some lucky as config or compaqs are just the best damn cheapo gaming rigs."This guy is smoking the cheeba because there is no f**king way that that system will run Call of Duty 2 at anything over 20 fps at 1280x1024. Stop lying to make yourself look cool on the internet.
Dells... YMMV, just like anything else. They are no better or worse than any of the other mass producers of generic PCs as far as failure ratios go I'm sure - they just sell the most, meaning that you'll hear about their problems the most.If you want a quality system, build it yourself, just remember that we don't make up a majority of the world. People will often buy whatever is cheapest and meets their needs, and if it breaks, they can call up Dell and (after hours on hold) get it fixed/replaced.And I was rather shocked to find that when I called Apple's tech suppport line, their tellers were overseas as well - truly, if you want something fixed, you must do it yourself.
We've used Dell computers for years in our office. Because of the poor quality we've decided to switch to only their workstation line of computers. Their laptops have been the biggest pain. I discuss this more at my blog:Atlas-Tuesday - Dell Laptops Suck

how many digg readers really need Dell's tech support? Maybe just on warranty item's, but I dont really see a reason to call them for anything else.
