greenbuildingelements.com — A community in Canada has an unusual form of solar power that can provide over 90% of the annual heating and hot water needs for its 52 homes, despite being situated in a cold Alberta location where winter temperatures can reach -33 degrees C (-27 F).

Sorry, where does it say that? It looks more like a conventional commercial development instead of a cooperative one.

I just wish in the summer I could directly vent the heat from all my gear right out side.

I understand that Canada actively welcomes the possibility of global warming. Anything has to be better than digging your way to the surface of the snow drifts which have buried the house every freezing June morning. ;-)

Proximity of houses is a necessity to make the system work. Sometimes, close neighborhoods like this have common garden/park/outdoor space down the street or somewhere adjacent to the homes, rather than giving each one a little postage stamp of green right outside the door.

I know a few new developments in Britain have used something similar. Temperature differentials between house air and ground used to warm the house in winter and cool it in summer. So simple, so ingenious (but so bloody expensive to install!)

People are digging you down but I lived in Northern Ontario and it'd be -40 in the night.. Add in a windchill and you wouldn't go outside. Without the wind just bundle up and walk quickly to school. haha.

It's like... almost 30 degrees outside. I don't think it was freezing last time I checked.

With Global Warming on many people's minds, do we have any ideas of the best way to lessen the impact on our future, or maybe a possible relief of its possible ravages or even a possible key to its eventual reversal. Many scientific experts have proposedhttp://www.quazen.com/Science/Technology/Solar-Pow ...Solar Power, Source of Endless Energy
