startribune.com — Recently, several science gurus -- Nobel Prize winners, institute heads, teachers and others who spend most of their time thinking about science -- were asked, "What is one science question every high school graduate should be able to answer?" Take their quiz and see how you do.

Interesting. The plural of jellyfish is jellyfishes. But then again, WHO CARES?!

Regarding Zackr's comment above:I am not exactly sure where you are getting your information as to how fossil's are dated but it is seriously flawed. Yes fossils are dated based upon the rocks they are formed within. Rocks are NOT dated by the fossils they contain however. The rocks are dated via radiometric dating using a variety of different isotopes (rubidium/strontium, thorium/lead, just to name a few).. These isotopes have half lives ranging between 1 - 45 billion years. With today's technology we can measure the levels of these isotopes to unimaginable accuracy, giving dates that are accurate to within a few thousand years (this is a relatively small discrepancy when considering one is measuring 3.8 billion year old fossils). Because of these dating methods we know that humans did not exist with dinosaurs despite what the bible may have you believe.I am in no way bashing the religion you follow however I would just like to ask which is more likely:A) The facts given in the bible you read (which ever it may be) have changed over the years due to the uncountable number of transcriptions and translations causing them to be wrong (have you ever played the telephone game as a kid?)orB) The radiometric determined dates arrived at by various scientists from around the world that happen to all coincide with each other, and remain relatively constant with the improvement of radiometric dating technology, are wrong.

I'm not a science person at all and haven't been in school of any kind in 8 years, still got all but the fossil one. This isn't one of those "Look how dumb our students are!" articles which is refreshing. Surely most high schoolers would get most of those.

Yeah I missed the dinosuar one because I have been out to the Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose, Texas and they have footprints of humans and dinosuars together and the prints all have the same time stamp of however many years ago it was....I think I am going to have to call bull on this one...it seems that the timeline keeps changing with some "scientist" so who really knows...Edit: heres the website for the park, and while it doesnt explicitly mention the co-footprint on the front page, it is one of their biggest attractions http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/dinosaur_valley/

I wouldn't say that.I am positively convinced there can be no God (religion are so truly "human" in their conception). On the other hand, the world is there, so it must have begun sometimes.

very intriguing explication here:http://curious.astro.cornell.edu/question.php?number=594in short: there are 12 hours because at summer, you only see 12 "decan stars" at night, among the 36 existing. 36 coming from the numbers of "decades" (10 days) in a year. each new decade, because of the revolution of the eath around the sun, a new "decan star" could be seen. Well, i don' t know wether it is the real reason, but it make sense to me that the number of hours should be related to the stars since they are fixed point in the sky and since the first measure of time were based on the position of the sun in the sky (sundials)
