downloadsquad.com — After weeks of e-mails and bad press discrediting the District Attorney's prosecution of the case, the tide may be turning for So-called porn pop-up teacher Julie Amero. District Attorney Smith is quoted as saying that things "could very well change" between now and Thursday's sentencing.

They should have went to "StopSign-dot-con" to get rid of the spyware.../Ducks, Runs fast//I can't believe a spyware company (StopSign) now has TV ads directing victims to their site.

One would hope "things may change"; it's never been anything but a witch hunt. That woman did exactly what my mother would do if confronted by a screen full or porn after having been told not to turn off the computer. She'd click the "X" because that's the only way she knows to get something off the screen, and if that didn't work, go get someone who knows how to make it go away. Give Amero a suspension for neglecting to mention that the pop-ups were pornographic in nature, because that would probably have lit a fire under someone's ass and got her some help, but no jail time. A potential forty years for being computer illiterate is ridiculous. Of course it appeared that she deliberately clicked the links--anyone who knows anything about computers knows the "X" in the corner of a pop up doesn't actually close the window because it's a link.

I don't know if I'm even going to get over this post of yours. Thanks for that.

She would get a quarter of that time for actually having sex with one of the students:http://www.wtopnews.com/index.php?nid=104&sid=1090834

I've been on the Internet since e-mail was punch cards flying through pneumatic tubes. Yes, that's right, Internet tubes.

The funny thing is...Firefox has a s**tload of security flaws as well... (not as many as IE maybe, but still)For safe browsing, Opera is the best atm (out of the big browsers.... don't know about all those small ones.)We just have to wait and see if Opera maintains its security if it gets a high market share.

I have to agree with tdhurst. The "Macs don't have malware JUST because they aren't popular enough." argument doesn't hold water. Ever heard the saying "Security through obscurity isn't."?Think about it. The Mac has roughly as many web browsers as Windows. Do you think they were all written out of love for the Mac? Search around on digg these days and you'll see plenty of people who hate the Mac. You'd expect some malware writer to put his skills to use against those damn Macs and their stuck-up owners. There are many millions of Macs out there, and that means that there IS a market.

@loppychewThat might be a great argument if it wasn't for the fact she didn't bother to tell anyone about it. Oh sure, she complained about the popups, but not that it was porn? I have a hard time believing that. What about covering the monitor with a jacket? What about leaving on break with the computer wide open?Sounds like she just didn't give a damn.
