at least when they're talking about hacking, they say stuff like "C progamming guide" or "UNIX manual." Oh, and their viruses are written before hand and not on the spot (probably the thing that annoys me the most in other movies).
and of course you fly around your virtual folder buildings without ever touching the mouse, just incessant and rapid typing and no terminal or anything to show any kind of output of what you're typing.
All I can think of now is the Lawnmower Man where Jobe could control the physical world from virtual existence towards the end of the movie."God made him simple. Science made him a god."
Well this is *close* ... I used to work for QNX Software Systems, their Photon GUI would let you run a running application to a new system by running a command called "on" which took an IP address as a parameter, something like: "on 1.2.3.4 /usr/bin/whatever" ... syntax may be wrong, it's been a decade since I worked there, but I miss having that in every-day Linux. The application itself would execute on the originating CPU/RAM/disk but the display of it would run in the remote user's GUI.
If computers in TV shows/movies act like the real world counterparts, we wouldn't have a storyline. 24 would be 24 months instead of hours...It's all about imagination. Technically, human beings should realize that TV isn't a good measure of real life situations.
Don't worry I've taken a picture with my cell phone. Ok upload it to my PC so we can zoom in on his face to see if he actually has a birthmark on his nose...
This list is probably why people like my mother are absolutely horrified of computers, and people like my father 100% skeptical of anything on the internet getting into his brain. I can't stand to even sit through shows like CSI, though. It's just too much fantasy for a "serious" show. The real question in all of this is...why does the team who goes into edit computer screens and such into a scene go through such great lengths to make it so fantastical??? To not get sued for likeness from Apple or Microsoft or something??? That and creativity are the only 2 reasons I can muster.
