osnews.com— It's called HelenOS, and it's based on the SPARTAN kernel, licensed under the BSD license, and they've just released version 0.2.0.

But why did they put it under the BSD license? That would allow Microsoft to cherry-pick potentially good ideas/features and then let them stick it into Windows without contributing a dime. Sure, it would also allow Apple to do the same thing with OS X, but at least OS X is Unix-y.If the open source (Linux)/BSD/and commercial Unix communities want to bury Microsoft Windows, they need to make it to where the licensing stays within their loosely connected share of the industry and offers no chance of leaking features to Redmond (without them ponying up their monopoly cash). Well, at least between the BSDs and OS X and Solaris considering the GPL isn't exactly compatible.
Ok guys you know why linux will never catch on, or why it's slow for people to get it? because there are so many! It confuses the crap out of anyone who isnt tech savy. You got SuSe, Ubuntu, BSD, Linspire.....and the list goes on and on! Then there is always some new linux the gets dugg...yet another one! I certainly dont have the time or that many computers to keep trying new ones! Screw that! This is the reason why probably wont be running linux anytime soon. I have a windows and a Mac mini. Thats good enough for me! I dont have to spend hours trying to figure out which linux does the job or is compatible with something I need it to do.~mario
