blogs.zdnet.com — On Friday, Microsoft gave computer makers a six-month extension for offering Windows XP on newly-shipped PCs. While this doesn’t impact enterprise IT — because volume licensing agreements will allow IT to keep installing Windows XP for many years to come — the move is another symbolic nail in Vista’s coffin.

If they ever do start charging suscriptions for there OS annually, people are just going to start using OSX or Linux. Very bad idea!

It is much better than XP actually.

I purchased a laptop last week and had XP installed instead of Vista, because I need a laptop that works. All my friends bought laptops with Vista installed and they're having a lot of trouble getting it to work with their printers and things.I don't believe that Vista is a failure, but XP is still practical while Vista is not.

I am also a System Administrator and a business owner, and I won't touch Vista. In fact, I've used Red Hat Linux for 8 years, and recently migrated all of my computers at home to Fedora Linux 10. Now I can actually use my computers for what they were meant for, rather than paying Microsoft for beta-quality software (Windows Vista), and dealing with everyday issues of Windows: high maintenance and compatibility come to mind. I wrote my own article on why I made the move to Linux, here:http://members.apex-internet.com/sa/windowslinux

Vista works for me.It took me about 15 minutes of putzing about before I had turned off Aero, turned off UAC and changed everything to look exactly like Windows XP.They really should just start shipping Vista XP with this same config...But why they went to all that trouble to add a bunch of crap nobody asked for is beyond me.
