no, they should not, because their car is their CHOICE.nobody CHOOSES to get an expensive disease, which is the whole point of risk sharing and health insurance. If you want to go back to an out of pocket system, which is exactly what you are talking about, you can, just cancel your health insurance. if you're healthy, why bother having health insurance at all? you're just giving money to pay for other peoples benefits.Lee SonisDoctors for Obamawww.doctorsforobama.net

@Barackalypse: "Also, I am not responsible for my fellow citizens health care "but you are, and they are responsible for yours. it's the concept of risk sharing. right now you're healthy, which is why your rate is so low. if you get an expensive disease like HIV/AIDS or Diabetes, would you want to have your coverage dropped? would you want to start paying $30,000 a year for your premium? or would you prefer to pay the entire cost of treatment out of pocket?without risk sharing, as soon as you get something expensive you'd go broke and be unable to pay for your own care.Lee SonisDoctors for Obamawww.doctorsforobama.net

"You say that like that's a bad thing. Sweden is socialist and is one of the best countries to live in. They actually value privacy there."So move there and pay the 60%+ a year in taxes to support their welfare state.

Entitlement != Fixing a broken system where middlemen rake in huge profits.

Good for you Barackalypse. This doctor would have to pay out 1700 a month instead of 83. That's retarded.

vtnerd I bet you are all in favor of the bank bailout aren't you? That's stealing a whole hell of a lot worse than this fictitious stealing you think socialized health care would be.

The point I was making was that health insurance and malpractice insurance are not the same thing. The patient/insurance company don't currently pay for your malpractice insurance. They pay you for services provided and the more complicated services get more money. You pay for Malpractice Insurance, not the health insurance company that sends you a check for services. And if you think huge payouts don't affect premiums, you should talk to an OBGYN.

We are all at risk and we are all not as protected as we once were. What drove it home to me was the case where babies died from a Heparin overdose in a midwest hospital. Within the year, Dennis Quaid and his wife watched their own twins fight for their lives due to the SAME thing. Being wealthy, having "excellent" medical care? It isn't there, not for the rich, not for the poor.....at least, it can't be taken for granted. The Heparin bottles should have been taken off the market, relabeled and the chance for error reduced. It didn't happen. Wht kind of medical system does that?!

it's true. I broke my finger and could not think of any way to get out of going to the hospital. I knew it would cost a fortune, and be worthless. They don't even turn on the lights any more to the emergency room (clara maass) and when you get in there they have tinted bulletproof glas. you don't even know if anyone is there.Their attitude is they could give a sh!t. There was no sense of urgency even though hardly anyone was there, and they didn't want to give me pain medicine even though my finger was at a right angle. i flipped so they gave me a codiene pill after like an hour and a half. This bored chick wrapped my finger in gauze cut with ikea scissors. It's worse than ever.Eight weeks go by. i try to make a dr apt and even tho I have cash and Santa Maria medical Center is accepting patients they won't take me. no insurance. Money? No. WTF?

Look, quality really can't decrease much more. The hospitals have gone private and they suck. It's one of those things. You do not go to a hospital unless you HAVE to, and the n you go to the closest. hospitals don't even have to try.If the government got involved they'd have to follow the rules.Like with hud. Private landlords can be slumlords, but hud developments follow strict guidelines. the government has strict rules. it's up to US people to make sure we know them and they are followed. You may think we don't have rights we actually do.I've lived everywhere. in the South people have no idea whatsoever the rights the government gives them, so they don't know to fight for stuff. Even the courthouses and lawyers don't know! People think the government is holding them back but it's really lack of knowledge.
