Plants are the the oldest living things....Most trees live for centuries.A creature is NOT the same as an animal. this tortoise may be the oldest known animal in the world, but it is an infant compared to trees.
Someone needs to spill some radioactive ooze on that turtle so we can learn her magical secrets. Then again, she's probably suffering from senility so she'd just poop her depends and call you by the wrong name.
Wow there is some rubbish that goes around. The claim Harriet had was that she was the oldest living animal in captivity at the time. The tortoise in India's age is not proven. Harriet is not the longest lived ever that record goes to the tortoise of the King of Tonga which lived to 188 years. Harriet is now dead so she holds the record as the second longest proven age of an animal in captivity at 175 years. That is all.BTW Redwoods are not the only long lived tree Huon Pines also reach many hundreds of years and its believed that some coral species actually outdo all of them. But claiming that any species of anything is the longest lived would be a wild claim in any case and as a biologist one I would never make. Considering there are 2 million described species and an estimated 30 million species so what do we know? Nothing really. And 90% of the life on earth cannot be easily aged. There are Huon cores that go back 800-900 years, so what, there is older. But none of this is relevant because these are all wild organisms, not in captivity and not all animals. They are not there fore a challenge to the record Harriet actually held.

I think it's because the original comment wasn't as obvious with it's pun. People need their humor to punch them in the face these days.
