techcrunch.com — "Google (Talk) is a distant, distant 4th after MSN, Yahoo and AIM. They hold a pitiful 1% of total instant messaging market share, with 3.4 million unique users in May 2006." The numbers however do not factor in Google Talk's usage within Gmail.

Many Canadian's use msn messenger too. I rarely use AIM and if I do, it's to talk to some of my friends who live in the US.

All that matters is who is using it in Gmail. I am the only person I know that downloaded the client, and I only have it to replace gmail notifier. Everyone uses it from gmail. That makes it completely unfair. Eric Wilson

I have to admit I want more features in Gtalk. I want. ability to conferencesend huge filesvideo chatsend voicemail to someones email if they are awayI want some google chat roomsability for gtalk to check multiple accounts at once and notify me of messagesA chime when a friend comes out of inactiveA recording feature for chat sessionsBetter overall voice quality in chat. Perhaps even Gtalk as a VOIP service, the ability to call telephones and hardware that connects like skype has. As for smilies, I wish Gtalk didn't even turn them within Gmail. It is annoying. Why isn't Skype on this list? Isn't that kind of relevant?

I use Trillian for my chatting needs, and Google Talk a lot when I'm in Gmail ...its really easy to use and I dont have to install a damn thing. I'm sure it will catch on for that reason alone. No need to have it installed, just use Gmail.
