Timing, research, speculation and an extreme will to take a risk are the cornerstones of domain success. Not one person on this board would willingly turn down 300 millions in assets, whether they're virtual or physical doesn't even matter. Ham does what many envy him for, he though ahead and may have applied questionable tactics, but doesn't that also apply to Bill Gates, Sam Walton, Presidents, CEOs, etc. as well? Ham's idea with the .cm extension is nothing short of smart. He saw a chance and capitalizes on peoples inaccuracy. I suppose the finger pointing can go 2 ways, one - Ham you pig! You're exploiting typos! the other - You dimwit user, learn to type or install auto correction add ons.Either way, i commend Ham for being innovative and having the guts to present a virtual concept to the physical body of a nation's government AND get them to buy into his concept. Last but not least, when are we going to start blaming land owners when they capitalize on our need for housing? Or the landlord that increases rent on an annual basis. Or, when are we going to boycott the TV shows about flipping houses. In essence, these developers are doing the same thing. They're picking something up that's not wanted or not cared for or sold for cheap, pretty it up and turn it. Same concept applies. To finish off: Some users here are defending the small business owners or startups. Ham started the same way, so did Microsoft. Today, both are throwing their weight around. If your startup outfit that you have in mind strikes it big, they'd do the same thing. Ultimately, at some point Ham was a startup at some point - just like the one you're thinking about.Ultimately, it's simple economics, not magic.
The man who is the principal owner of the Internet is David de Rothschild. Check out First Mark Communications, headed by Lynn Forester, wife of Sir Evelyn Rothschild. Minority partner in The One World Company, David Rockefeller is using his JP Morgan Chase & Co. to elevate Verizon to the same status in the US, as First Mark has in Europe.
Kevin Ham is a very successful domainer. I have a lot of information about how you can get started in the domain name business which can be found here: http://www.LLLL.com
