pcworld.com — You probably heard that the iPhone was dropped to $199. What you probably didn't hear is that you pay an extra $240 over two years in "increased" data plan costs. So what do you end up paying? $439 for the low end model. That doesn't sound like a price drop to me.

Regards of what you're saying (I'm not sure that I infer your conclusion from that article or the wikipedia entry on A-GPS), the iPhone 3G has a GPS receiver.

(I realize this is an old post and probably won't get seen, but I feel the need to post this anyway)Yes, I agree she does have a serious problem, but there's nothing I can really do about it. Although generally every text she sends is about 10 words, and she could get more accomplished by voice in about 5 minutes than she does through texting in about an hour. Also, during the school year she's not texting at school in general (or at least that's what she says). Plus she sleeps from at least 11pm until 6:30 or so. This leaves about 3pm - 11pm for text, minus dinner and the like I think. I asked and she doesn't use mobile IM or anything like that either; it's all text messaging.http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/1671/txtog3.jpgNot quite 30,000 (it's about 21,000 all added together), but this is the norm or a little lower, as far as I know. It's stupid, imo.

Come on guys, not everyone wants the 3G Data Plan. I understand why they factor in the 3G Data plan in the price and thats because it is REQUIRED for you to get an iPhone 3G. I've been with Cingular/ATT for over 10 years, so you know I can afford it, but not every body can. Who want to take around 2 devices, and ipod and a treo for example. My daughter doesn't need 3G, but i'd have to shell out $30 a month for nothing at all.I know I'm getting one cuz my jobs pays for it, but I gotta get the wife one also, she takes a blackberry and a touch to work and she doesnt need 3G. Thats $60 bucks extra paid for nothing at all. I would prefer Apple charge $400 for an open device.NB: Remember also, people keep calculating the extra $30 for only 2 years, are we planning to get rid of the iphone in 2 years? Not everybody will, so for those who keep it longer will definitely keep paying that $30/month.

Actually, I WOULD like an iPhone w/o service. I have an iPod touch and I'd love it, happily pay another $100 for it, if it had a camera, a speaker (the iPod touch speaker DOES NOT COUNT), BlueTooth, and GPS. I don't really need it to be a phone/internet anywhere device. Taking, and more importantly viewing and transmitting via wifi without a computer, photos, wireless headphones, a navigation device, sound for a couple people watching an episode of a TV show... all of these things would make the iPod touch a much better device and well worth the extra cost.
