guardian.co.uk — The App Store's success is reportedly a surprise to Apple, but presumably an even bigger and nastier one to competitors such as Research in Motion (who make BlackBerrys) and Nokia (the world's biggest mobile phone maker).

Yep, Apple initially thought of controlling native apps all by themselves and hence pushed for web apps and then either of these two things might have happened :1) A came a crazy intern with fresh ideas joined their business dept. and crafted a sweet business logic which caught Jobs' attention!or2) Installer/Cydia apps were an overwhelming hit that Apple wanted to tap in the revenue scheme a little but little did they guess that they will be making truck loads of dollars in such a short time! And oh, btw - Apple encourages fart apps and discourages productivity apps mind you! Don't go about going all hitech with innovative ideas... If you insist on going HiTech - go with Cydia : The no censorship marketplace for indies!

fair enough, but it hadn't really done much to hook me by then and that was a good, 3? paragraphs in. It was just too terrible for me to continue reading, and judging by the comments here I won't have to ask for 2 minutes of my life back.

I know there's nothing wrong with it. I wasn't hating. I'm just saying it won't work.

@theabsin: No, it isn't. The fact is that Apple as a brand is kind of a big deal. They have and excellent image and appeal and that alone SELLS.In no way I say this to underscore the success of the iPod, I'm just telling you that that was a big part of their success and other brands just couldn't reproduce it.

apple is definitely making big bucks with the iphone... this is more because of the buzz newses about the launch of the iphone prior to its launch... in the asian countries like China nad India there were record advanced booking for the iphone... and this is the scenario when people didn't knew about the working of the iphone... so such craze about iphone.. really deserved such profits and LG is the another profit maker in this context it also sold its so many iphone which marked a high profit time for it http://www.gomonews.com/lg-reports-record-high-pro ...
