arstechnica.com — Ubuntu 8.04 was released last month with highly-anticipated features like PulseAudio, GNOME 2.22, and Wubi. Although this release is a strong incremental improvement over its predecessor, we found some serious bugs that detract from the overall user experience. Ars takes a close look to find out if Hardy Heron raises the bar.

I'm not talking about the visual effects. I'm talking about the basic look of it. If I see a screenshot, I'm not gonna see wobbly windows, I'm gonna see the outdated overall look

I hear this a lot.. but have not had any problems with it myself. But then I am normally not seeding or downloading more than 10 or so torrents at a time. Are those who have problems with Azureus running a larger number of torrents?

They should move from 6 month releases to 12 month releases and make 1 final release on 31 december and the beta release on 31 June.I am very disappointed with Hardy. It just sucks. Samba has been molested in a way that it is a huge pain in the ass, font rendering is crap, and there is not any sign that this release has been given proper attention for stability and smoothness. I will go back to 7.10, try the new Fedora 9 that comes in 2 days, and will checkout 8.04.1 when it's there.

Not saying I don't agree with you, but is a quad-core CPU the best example of demonstrating that slight code changes and speedups don't matter?

If you upgraded, you might have to delete the .miro folder in your home directory. Miro has not always been stable, but it's getting better with the latest version.
