news.cnet.com — Back in 2002, Jim Allchin was co-president of Microsoft's Platforms and Services Division and was, in his own words, "scared" of the momentum behind Linux, as noted in an email sent to several of his direct reports. Why scared? Because Windows was starting to lose to Linux

Your so called" facts "are dead wrong...I'm a average Linux user and have used it for 4 years. I gave a friend a copy of Mint, she tried it,fell in love and uses it now. She had no problem figuring out how to use it...Linux has a very nice gui and is ,in some ways, easier to use than Windows. Our point is not whether Linux takes over Microsoft,we really don't care. We just want a nice, stable OS with no security problems and Linux provides that for us.

Web surfing, email, knocking up basic documents and listening to music is about as good as it gets on Linux.

I see your point from your comment as it relates to the article. Servers do represent the largest growth in the Linux market. However, AsylumAleikum's comment was clearly addressing Linux desktop marketshare, which may not be directly related to the article, but it's a valid statement none the less. There has been a significant (all be it small) increase in Linux desktop market share over the last four years; the last three of which are mainly due to user-friendly distros like Ubuntu. Talking about Ubuntu may not be relevant to a discussion on server growth but it is absolutely relevant when discussing Linux as a whole.

OS X desktop has nothing to do with that s**t named iPhone. You know it very well but you are just trolling aren't you? Linux ports of Quicktime, iTunes doesn't exist because they are closed source applications and there is NO MARKET for them under Linux. There are tools like libquicktime , movtar, xine which does a perfect job and open source. Amarok fills the iPod-iTunes need and also I wonder how many Linux users are also iPod fans?If you want quicktime, itunes under linux, convince the Linux fans to accept closed source apps having patents/codecs.

Microsoft practically invented the software market. People have be come millionaires piggy banking of the back of bill gates, one guy sold a spreadsheet that calculated GST (New Zealand Tax) and did over 23,000 then sold the license to a software company for $29,000. Was a lot more advance than just calculating tax, but yeh.Microsoft will never go down.Apple will never go down.Linux will never go down.Quit with these OS wars. Each have there advantages, just pick one that suits you. PC's dont get viruses if you manage them correctly.
