Hulu quality is equal to off the website, which only makes sense 'cause it's the same Flash video being played. The main problem with Boxee on AppleTV's rendition of Hulu is that the AppleTV has a 1GHz processor under the hood, which can get bogged down in *some* Hulu videos (others do just fine, though).I have the AppleTV using Boxee and a 1.67GHz PowerBook G4 running Hulu. The only reason I go back to the PowerBook is if I want to restart a show at a specific place (Boxee currently can only pause or restart Hulu, not jump to a place in the stream or fast forward / rewind). I find the quality from both machines roughly equal on every stream, and both slightly less than a MacBook running on the same network on some programs.

It's on the Boxee feature list. Go to forums.boxee.tv and skip to the features forum. Main problem is that it is based on Silverlight, and Boxee is Linux/Mac. Silverlight 2 exists for Intel Macs, but not for Linux. Boxee would have to support Netflix ONLY on Macs (and Apple TVs), which might cause problems in the "larger" community.

Hmm. In the meantime, for no additional hardware cost, I save $85 a month from DirecTV and get an overall better experience (ability to watch any show, any time, any TV). When my ISP decides to screw it's customers, I'll look into other options if necessary, but for now, $85 a month pays for a LOT of bandwidth!

No need for all that jazz... You can just request one here:http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=144

What do those of us outside the US use in place of stupid geo-filtered Hulu? Buried for Hulu.

f**k, damn edit timer..I clarified my reply but I didn't hit save changes fast enough so f*ck it, I'm posting the same thing again only slightly altered. I'm an *ss hole that way.Umm yeah... on the one hand I totally agree with you. On the other you COMPLETELY miss the point.I'm responding on this old comment because I find it fascinating and typical how you misunderstand the nature of friending. It's as common as the misconception of blogging and the internet.Yes... on the one hand 99% of the internet is crap, 99.9% of blogs are crap, and of maybe even 99.999% of all "internet friending is crap". The nature of the network is that all the crap doesn't matter. It's what YOU do with it, what you find, whom you friend. Once you have the needle the rest of the haystake is just a nice place to sit.You wouldn't argue ALL the internet is crap, because all that is important is that .1% that is interesitng to you.Likewise there IS the possibility that you might develop friends with whom you like to watch a tv show... might enjoy watching and sharing video of a particular type or interest. Perhaps real friends with similar interests. Family perhaps... maybe other friends whom are trekies... or who like to watch wood working videos... or whom like to discuss LAN tactics using video... Maybe your roomate. Maybe your wife / girlfriend. It all depends on whom you are friending and what you're interests are. When the two come together they can be quite brilliant.Like the early days of email... the value of the thing at the start is crap... until you get that first friend using email... and then it's value grows exponentially with each new friend. Boxee MAY fill some need some day that you never new you had, maybe not. But to discount it with so broad a stroke is to misunderstand it's true potential. MOST of the time even the best communications or "shared experience" technologies take years to catch on, just like email or IM.
