slate.com — Between fired U.S. attorneys, deleted RNC e-mails, sexually harassed pages, outed CIA agents, and tortured Iraqi prisoners?not to mention the warrantless wiretapping, plum defense contracts, and golf junkets to Scotland?you could be forgiven for losing track of which congressman or Bush administration flunky did which shady thing.

>Compare it to Bill Clinton, who was impeached, after one 'scandal', if you'd like to call it that. I mean jeez, at least his scandal didn't affect his country nearly as badly as GWB's have.Bill CLinton LIED to a Federal Judge. Our whole legal system is predicated uon people telling the truth, which is why purgury is a felony

The levels of "Clinton did it" in this thread are off the charts. Rove invents a 'voter fraud' scandal to prosecute Democrats? Clinton did it! Gonzo fires attorneys for not prosecuting Democrats in said 'scandal?' Clinton did it! Rove deletes official emails to interfere with investigation of the previous? Clinton did it! Bush appointees censor global warming research? Clinton did it! GOP leadership in congress accepts bribes? Clinton did it! Photos leaked of the Geneva Conventions being violated in Gitmo? Clinton did it! NSA illegally wiretaps citizens? Clinton did it! Cheney leaks a CIA agent's identity? Clinton did it! GOP representative sexually harasses pages? Clinton did it! GOP representative takes bribes in return for no-bid defense contracts in Iraq? Clinton did it!Apologists must have no shame whatsoever.

Yes, the Dems suck, but it is the Republicans who are f**king us over right now. Wait your turn.

That sounds so cynical yet even-handed, it must be true! Surely Democrats and Republicans are two sides of the same corrupt coin.Except wait, it isn't and they aren't. When Democrats are in power, you don't see nearly the breadth or depth of corruption that you see when Republicans are in power. Find me a period of Democratic government since World War II that looks anything like Slate's collection of Republican scandals from this administration alone. There's something about the basic ideology and electoral strategy of the modern Republican Party that attracts liars, thieves, and Machiavellian authoritarians. You're right to a very small extent-- William Jefferson (D) needs to be in jail *bad*, and there's a bad smell around Feinstein's husband-- but being right to an extent does not make you generally right. The only thing worse than partisanship is the blasé attitude that there's no difference between the major parties, when there clearly is. Republican hacks count on that attitude, and exploit it, and encourage it. How many times have you heard "but Clinton", and how many times has that been a complete lie? Do you honestly believe that (boring though he may be) had Kerry won the last election we would have seen the continued evisceration of the Department of Justice for christ's sake? Do you really not see the difference between Clinton (in many respects a serious sleazeball) enforcing absolute compliance with record-keeping laws and ordering his people to Congress to testify, and the Bush administration's deliberate evasion of record-keeping facilities and frequent outright refusal to submit to Congressional oversight?Don't believe that the two major parties are the same. It isn't true.

Kinda left out the last 50 years of Democrat scandals, didn't we?

Every voter in their state needs to look and see if they have career politicians that have been in power for a long time and get rid of them. I am not for congressional term limits but why are the people in this country voting the same bastards in over and over?
