I'm the original poster of this item on digg, so I should clarify 2 things: firstly, the image is a mockup (a quick one, at that!) and secondly, it's really just to illustrate an exaggerated example (or perhaps not?) of many/all icons on your home screen getting bubble alerts as new messages/content/updates become available within the apps.
