There's an American myth that anyone can achieve a 'rags to riches' story themselves. It keeps a good majority of people docile and in fear of disrupting the status quo.

What about the real advantages to being poor, like having to walk everywhere because you can't afford to drive (and therefore possibly being fitter), or not having a house full of possessions that you have to look after? Not that that would outweigh the disadvantages, though.This doesn't just smack of something written by a rich person, it seems to be written by a rich person who has never even spoken to anyone poor.
