IQ has been standardized to measure average intelligence across a group of different reasoning skills. IQ tests are fairly good indicators for the ability of a particular individual to adapt to different situations based on past experience. Additionally consider the fact that there are people who are clearly less intelligent across all areas of intelligence for one single reason. It therefore stands to reason that there should be those who are higher across the board as well.
