dailygalaxy.com — Lake Baikal is known as the “grand dame” of all lakes. UNESCO declared it a World Heritage due to its stunning bio-diversity. Most of its 2500 some odd plant and animal species, like the freshwater seal, evolved in pristine isolation and are found nowhere else on the planet. The 25 million year old lake predates humans, but it may not outlive us.

So would someone like to prove me wrong here or are we going with the bury the facts mantra. A 25 million year old lake has experienced climate change, people.

It's less than half the size of Lake Superior. It's bigger by volume because it's so deep.

To pick a nit of your picked nit, I think they are using "largest" to mean "most voluminous." Lake Superior is the largest in terms of surface area, but not in volume. In three-dimensional terms (volume), Lake Baikal is the largest, but in two-dimensional terms (surface area) Lake Superior is. It just depends on how the word is used.

It's not the largest...by no means. It is the deepest though, and very beautiful.

Wow. It's a sad day when knowledge is no longer regarded as a virtue. Typical luddite.

Hey, I'm 100% russian too, but I cannot go against the format of "Russian Reversal" jokes.
