In 1826, French scientist Joseph Nicéphore Niépce, took that photograph, titled View from the Window at Le Gras at his family’s country home. It's pretty cool, check it out.

Sometimes you need a flash. When shooting outside with overcast weather the muted light of the sky will likely cause your subject to be underexposed. The best way to fix this is using a flash to fill in the foreground subject. I can come up with other times you would use a flash if you want me to.
