popsci.com — Remember when videogames were fun? When the controllers had only a couple buttons and you didn’t have to spend an hour learning the seven-step finger dance for “walk?” Nintendo does, so it took a step back, looked at its superpowered competitors, and took a totally different path with its new console...

Probably because it was the only innovative console, as in didn't mirror a computer for your tv. Glad they are getting the dserved recognition to actually try something different.

The nail is the top of the Home tech section, not the overall best innovation. There are 10 sections altogether and the Wii is number one in the home entertainment section.

I haven't owned a Nintendo console in over a decade, but Nintendo has got me back with this console (I already preordered!). I love when companies take a risk in the name of innovation. Also, with two giants like Sony and Microsoft as their competition, you gotta love a smaller company like Nintendo, who does things their way and don't let themselves get pressured into doing it the Big Boys way.

When Satoru Iwata replaced Hiroshi Yamauchi in 2002... the company turned around. He was a business man who worked in a military factory and studied law before taking over after his grandfather died... and he proceeded to run the company like a dictator. After they had some initial success... they were plagued by arrogance, anti-competitive behavior, and really bad PR among other things. Now, finally, they have someone who majored in computer science and actually worked as a programmer at HAL (the Nintendo subsidiary behind Kirby, Earthbound, and Super Smash Bros). So, yes, at one point the "bad guys" claim was appropriate... but not anymore.
