bilerico.com — It seems there is a new threat to our country- an insidious danger that is seeping into our homes and everyday lives that must be stopped at any cost. That threat is intellectualism. We have heard the some of the buzzwords of this political season- Folksy, Joe Six-pack, Elitist, and Arugula Eating. It seems the new wedge issue is intelligence.

I think you are confusing this with wanting to get rid of the Federal Department of Education. Education until fairly recent times was always on a more local level, not controlled by the Feds. This is the true conservative position. Bush on the other had wanted more control by the Feds with for example his 'No Child Left Behind' program.

Actually, one Will Ferrel movie shouldn't be put into the 'dumb' category. Stranger than Fiction was great, even though most people haven't seen it.

Unlike both the fools you describe and your merry band of idiot responders, I'm going to have to say that actors who make millions a year actually do need to be making a mere fraction of what they do.CEOs, on the other hand, should be removed from the equation entirely. If you liken a corporation to a body, the only "organ" you can compare them to is not the brain, as many might think, but the brain TUMOR. Sure, a few odd individuals in that position might actually help the corporation to be more successful for a while, but they suck out far more than they bring in and just kill the whole f**king body in the end.

So, what happens when your federal ban-hammer is the one that "decides to kick your ass and get away with it"?Do we need another higher level to take care of that? And another? And another? You're running away from the answer. You can always sneak up and whack your sheriff on the back of the head, but I can assure you that you can't do the same to the entire U.S. executive branch.

Ye Ghods, look at that.My computer goes on the fritz and into the shop for a fortnight, I come back and find that one of my comments has been a) tsunamied, and b) turned into a meme.I'm honoured! :DAs for the Eloi and Morlocks...yeah, I knew about their book relationship. I don't necessarily see it as "evil knuckle-draggers versus virtuous intelligentsia" so much as an analog of the relationship most people have with the celebrity sphere. Let's face it, most people can't get through a day without saying something nasty about a public figure, but we still "feed" them with money and attention. Paparazzi picking celebrities, almost arbitrarily, and hounding them to death (literally, in some cases). We feed the Beautiful and the Rich, however shallow we perceive them to be, by buying their product.
