thecarpetbaggerreport.com — Reasonable, levelheaded Americans figured out a long time ago that there is no "War on Christmas" and the conservative culture warriors probably just need to pick up a new hobby. But they can?t. Not because there?s a nefarious scheme to undermine Christianity but because the religious right has figured out that the ?War on Christmas? is a cash cow.

That was a brilliant rant. Is it original? If so, you are a hell of a writer.

"Shops started using "happy holidays" because it covers at least five different concurring holidays with just two words - it's simply very practical."You COULD say "Have a Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year", but you probably have s**t to do...

It's the Solstice and it's the day the Oak King is born and the Holly King is supreme. Most Pagans celebrate both Xmas and the Solstice.

@GnuTzuWell said. I decided a few years ago that the commercialization of the holidays wasn't something I wanted to participate in. Our new tradition is to use the money saved on presents to host a big feast, and invite as many of our neighbors as we can fit (which is a good chunk). We usually host sometime between Christmas and Chanukah (depending where it falls that year) and enjoy a friendly meal with Christians, Catholics, Jews, Aitheists and quite a few "undecided". For one day a year we enjoy the finest wine, the richest food, the most heart-attack-enducing desserts we can find. This may not sound like a big deal, but for some of our neighbors (single elderly people on social security) the company and feast is a very special treat. I like hearing how other people celebrate- some of our neighbors are from other countries, some are from different genrations. We all have unique traditions, and yet, all have common traditions too (music is universal). For the sake of clarity: those of you eyeing a big pile of presents right now should be happy, not guilty. We are all free to celebrate (or not) however we want. However, and call me naive if you must, I'd like to think that we can all agree on one ideal, made famous by the season:Peace on Earth, and good will towards (wo)man. Wishing you all a Happy 2007 , Merry Christmas, Jolly Festivus, or whatever the heck else you might wish to celebrate.

BabyWookie, you sound pretty brainwashed to me and you seemed to have skipped history class where they covered all those nasty massacres and people being sent to the Gulag. Alternatively you might be all too aware of the atrocities and you are just an ignorant amoral bigot.I'm leaning towards the latter.PS. Merry Christmas and God bless.

Want to see a Nazi? Look in the mirror. Should'nt you be busy trying to ban/burn books? The Nazis loved burning/banning books and locking up Christians who resisted them. You are the sick f**k.God bless you.

It's the solstice, people. The only reason it's anything else is because pagans couldn't be converted if they couldn't bring along their existing traditions. Solution: slap some Judeo-Christian imagery on longstanding pagan traditions and hope that in time people will forget exactly what they're celebrating and why. Even your precious Christmas trees are pagan in origin. How do you think your god feels about that?

iceperson wrote:"You can't simply say "I don't celebrate because I don't believe.", you have to insult the 80-90% of the population that does. This is exactly what the people on the right are talking about. When the media or academia talk to/about believers this is the tone they use."Cry more plz. I'm sorry that 80-90% of the population believes in fairy tales. Lets call a spade a spade, ok? It's still true whether it hurts someone's feelings or not. The thing about science is it's really undemocratic. The point is always to find the truth, not to coddle/convince.And as for the main topic, I try not to attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity.
