DNA is only one of many factors contributing to sexual dimorphism. Have you ever had a chromosomal analysis? There's around a 1% chance that your XX or XY doesn't match up with the sex that is "should".
There's a difference between sex and gender. Biologically, she may have been male, but mentally, she's always been female. Sex reassignment surgery, and all the therapy and hormones that go with it, help a person make their body -- their sex -- better match their gender.
I was browsing through some of my old comments and stumbled upon this one from so long ago. I didn't realize so many people had responded to my comment until now.Just for the record, I'd like to say that I have nothing against homosexuals. I'm hetero myself, but I do have some gay friends. Sexual orientation is embedded in your brain, however, cutting off part of your body is physical harm. There is definitely a huge difference. It saddens me to think there might someday be parents who give consent for a doctor to perform a sex change operation on their teenage son or daughter (has this been done already?). A little bit later in their life they decide it was just a phase and they want it back; "Oops, sorry, once it's gone, it's gone! How about a fake one instead?"What I'm about to talk about is quite extreme, so if you are timid I suggest you read no further. A few years ago there was a news story (multiple reliable sources, just do a search) about a German by the name of "Armin Meiwes." He has stated he's had a "Hansel and Gretel" fantasy for most of his life. In other words, he is a cannibal. Apparently he found someone willing to give himself to the guy. Here's a short version of the really gruesome details: the victim willingly ate some of himself (this was on a videotape) and gave the rest of his body to the "Hansel and Gretel" guy who stored the body parts in a freezer for later consumption. Okay, now that most of you are vomiting uncontrollably (myself included)... I want you to ask yourself if you think it's okay because it was consensual. My personal opinion is no, it is not okay simply because it was consensual. "Physical harm" doesn't go much further than that example. One last thing about this news story, it might surprise you to learn the court case verdict was only manslaughter.
