desktoplinux.com — As unbelievable as it might seem, OpenSUSE actually seems to support more hardware than Vista does at this stage in its development. Linux having more hardware support than Windows -- who says we don't live in a time of miracles?!

This is a pretty good review. It makes like for like comparisons, and all of its claims are backed up, which is a refreshing change from the type of commants we normally see. There was no mention of the multimeida issues which might put off a user - Don't get me wrong, I'm a SUSE user and have Windows running nowhere - but it's worth a mention. Though on the otherside Windows won't play DivX/Real/AAC/Ogg etc either.Definitely worth a read.

It's been in development for 4 years. It shouldn't be unstable. They should be fixing minor bugs here and there, especially if they will release it in 6 months.I just installed Suse 10.1, ALL of my hardware was detected and installed. On an asus a8n sli deluxe. Even the nvraid was detected properly. I've always found Linux installs to be better, they are faster, find more devices and have easier more intuitive installs.

You should give it another try. SuSE has come a long way since "a few years ago".

Windows 95 made me try Linux. Granted, I didn't do it until about 6 years later.SuSE 10.1 made me return back to Windows. ASAP, after over a year of single-booting Linux.

Damn you're a dinosaur. My first was RedHat 5.2. Best part of which was the actually printed manual. Back then it was a genuine daily life saver and very well written piece of art.

Which is irrelevant to everyone except gamers and game designers., and the bloated s**tty Vista GUI (which works on DX9)

@ teegeedeeAwesome tip dude! Thanks much. Didn't know of this option. It looks a lot like synaptic on the surface. This may just salvage my 10.1 venture after all. 3rd party package management was my biggest gripe. Thanks!

BETA versus Released??? Colour me unimpressed :)

Is the final version of Vista going to be THAT good that Microsoft haters have no other choice than grabbing a Vista beta to make comparisons? Wow, I REALLY need Vista, I sense I'm going to love it to death! Thanks for the heads up Linux users.

What a nonsense. If I buy the latest hardware then I always have Windows drivers. What you're saying that Linux drivers arrive as fast if not faster? What a foolish statement!Sure, I agree that vintage hardware is better supported in Linux, but hey, most Windows users don't need that old crap, they want the latest technology."I have setup Xandros for many people who were frustrated with XP, and everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, I've done this for absolutely loves it."Most Linux users who want to try a Linux distribution don't have a geek like you that comes with it, they have to be a geek themselves and that's the whole issue with Linux, it's not for the average Jane and Joe.Btw, I had to laugh hard about you suggesting that Xandros is better than XP, just because those 80 years you installed it for love it. Give a 14-16 the choice between XP and Xandros and I know already what they're going to choose. Do a freaking reality check
