mint.com— The government is telling us that the economic stimulus is working and the recession is over. But you wouldn’t know it from looking at the unemployment numbers.

This is how unemployment is calculated. It's what unemployment means. There's no point in getting upset that you're conception of unemployment doesn't match up with the majority of economist's conception of unemployment. It's not just the US, Australia uses the same way to measure unemployment. Our welfare is very different though
"There are plenty of jobs out there"Taking out your Moms trash doesn't count."If you give up looking for a job, then you don't deserve government help."" He's now on unemployment and half ass looking for a job. I don't blame him."WTF, you can't have it both ways.
With ever-increasing technology, manufacturing will become increasingly automated over time to save costs. (That's what business does to remain competitive.)As such, manufacturing isn't the best idea to bet your country's future on for building jobs.
"Even when I was eligible for unemployment in the past, I have never filed. I just don't believe it can do good. It will lead me to procrastinate more."That sounds like a personal problem, not a problem with the unemployment program.
and that is why most economists are morons. Recessions are prolonged because of financial problems cause by external factors, like crooked bankers or structural policies that reward closing domestic factories and opening overseas factories using slave labor. The paradox of thrift indeed, if we had a few million more people enthralled in the paradox of thrift in this nation we'd have a lot less people defaulting on their mortgages. Money is not created out of thin air, despite what the Federal Reserve would have you believe. I'd say the entire concept of fiat currency destroys more financial stability than the paradox of thrift. A rising printing press sinks all boats to paraphrase John F. Kennedy.
