"Completely not true, the PS3 account for the majority of blu-ray player and yes they do outsell stand alone HD-DVD player. But HD-DVD stand alone have out sold stand alone blu ray players. Sony did release a figure back in Sept. stating that within a certain 12 week period stand alone blu ray player did out sell HD-DVD player, but that was well before the $99 price point of HD-DVD.

Well Bluray uses a full programmng language (java) for it's interactivity, and all bluray drives support up to 8 layers, 200 gigabytes. Bluray discs are also by far more scratch resistant.HD DVD drives only support 2 layers, even though a 3 layered disc format is coming requiring new drives.

what connection? I have a sneaky suspicion that HDMI does a worse job than component, and and DVI-D than VGA both analog.using the digital cables, picture look bland and washed out, both from PC and HD settop box.

I can see a definite benefit of 1080 or 720 if you have a large screen size. I wonder how distinguishable any HD format on a 42" or smaller screen would be versus an upscaled SD DVD movie at a reasonable viewing distance...any thoughts?

This is the last physical format. Sure there might be higher resolution TV's and media for niche markets in the future but I am confidently building a blu-ray library which will not be deprecated until people own 3d, smell vision, or whatever bs imaginary concepts people have. Blu players and Discs are way cheaper than DVD counterparts were... Hopefully BD starts releasing some decent HD movies soon- since I have been waiting for this to end. I just bought 30 movies from amazon where most buy one get one free really weren't worth the petro used to manufacture the disc.
