"Top-of-the-line G5 models, for example, are water-cooled, keeping them quiet, as well."Isn't that just because the processor runs too hot not to be water cooled? This guy acts like it's a feature when really the G5s are water cooled because they have to be.
OK, I don't want to sound like one of "those" Mac people. Hell, I've only been a Mac person for three days. But already I love the OS. Everything just WORKS, unlike Windows far too often. On my Mac (and it's a mini mind you, not a powerhouse of computing muscle,) I can capture a movie into iMovie from my camcorder and the rest of the system is stilll fully functional. With my Windows machine, if I am capturing video, everything else stops cold. My Windows machine is 2.53Ghz and it can't display the video in real time as it's capturing -- it stutters. My Mac displays it just as smoothly as if I had the camera connected to a TV.I can't believe it took me this long to buy a Mac. My Windows machine is sitting right beside it but only because I have to have it for work. Otherwise I'd be 100% Mac. That's after only 3 days of using the computer. It's that good.FLAME AWAY. Just remember -- if you flame me, chances are you've never owned a Mac ;-)
"iMac G5, 17". Horrible prices or a proper investment? Notice the Windows-goggles you're using to judge."Are you really doing anything on that computer that requires more than an entry level PC? That's something I have realized lately. I bought a computer almost 2 years ago. At the time it cost me $600. It was pretty much an entry level computer. Now I was thinking about getting a new one then I realized I don't NEED a new PC. Another stick of ram for $50 and I could get another 2-3 years out of this one. Really I don't do anything that intensive (browse the net, check email, listen to music and watch movies). So when asking if a $1200 windows box would be a better buy than a $3000 mac I'd have to say yes for my personal uses.Even a mac mini is still a bit overpriced for what you get. For about the same price you can get a heck of a lot more powerful (and flexible) pc.
giant.robotI don't agree that an entry level pc is underpowered if all you do is internet stuff. People are always under the misconception that they need the most powerful computer going. Not the case. Look at what you do on the computer and assess what you need based on that. Also, (bear with me as I don't know a lot of details about the mac mini) isn't the mac mini not upgradable? Eg. you are stuck with the memory, etc. that came with it? In that regard the entry level pc beats it right there.
who needs more than 1 operating system anyways?!? I'm happy with xp and can't wait til windows vista....I looked at all the screenshots for vista on digg and they really don't show you everything new about the operating system...search google images and then you'll really get a feel for the new os...then you can say good or bad
I play every type of game I want to play on my mac, fps=quake III, mmorpg=world of warcraft and rts=age of empires do you really need 15 types of the same types of games to get the same thrill... IMHO I only need a choice in software if what there is available sucks... I am happy with my mac and it works and plays well.. I keep my PC around for COH and Matrix Online and thats it.
