nzherald.co.nz — At first glance, Bluefields in Nicaragua looks like any other rum-soaked, Rastafarian-packed, hammock-infested Caribbean paradise. But Bluefields has a secret. People here don't have to work. Every week, sometimes every day, 35kg sacks of cocaine drift in from the sea. The economy of this entire town of 50,000 tranquil souls is addicted to cocaine.

Well who want to put in all their money with mine so that we can buy a couple hundred kilos?

@Lewie: That's because they're rich. Most people aren't. In fact, ALL drug addicts that turn to crime to feed their habits aren't, whether they were before they got addicted or not. Legalizing cocaine is not morally wrong, but even if the price goes down substantially addicts will still need to get the money from somewhere - and thus we're back at square 1 for crime. The crime legalizing cocaine and other drugs will reduce is the larger-scale criminal activity from the cartels. My basic point is that we need to grant individual rights all together, at once, so that legalizing cocaine will not allow the addicts to take from society more than they already do.

This is the craziest story I've read in awhile. I wonder how many Americans are trying to map out this place right now and go there on a trip. I'm highly considering it but does anyone know if it's possible to get there by car from Managua?

And when they dont comply with the court, which they wont, then we will have to jail them, correct? Or do you create mandate after mandate, after they keep robbing and killing people for their habit?

You don't think these people are armed and on the lookout? And if you wander far enough away from the shore, they won't be the only people you would be dealing with, considering all the cartels in the area.
