dailymail.co.uk — The UK has been ranked the 21st best place in the world to live – flagging behind Ireland and Iceland. The UN list, which saw Norway retain its status as the world’s most desirable place to live, ranks sub-Saharan African states afflicted by war and Aids as the worst.

Nearly all of Japan are Shintoists, and pretty much all of Quebec are Catholic.

I think you can blame the warm weather for some of the crazies in the US. The fact that it's so comfortable and encourages laziness, is why many of these Americans have it so good and get bored and start trouble. Most of the more civilized US is cold-weather areas (New York, Boston, Chicago, the northeast in general).

Sure, but believing in Shinto basically means you go to a shrine once a year.

I live west of Sydney in the country area highlands (for Australia, anyway) now but used to live in the suburbs of Sydney for most of my life. Why did I move? The heat in Summer is oppressive. It also comes with a hell of a lot of humidity, too. Add to that the fact that in Sydney, you mostly live on top of each other and you will see why living in the Sydney suburbs isnt a great life. I live about an hour or so west of the outer limits of Sydney suburbia where the air is a lot cleaner and the life is better.Having said all that, I would much more prefer to live in Australia, somewhere, than anywhere else in the world. We arent the HUGE target that America is, for example and there is room to just get out and "go missing" for a few hours. I can walk out my back door and be in a National Park 5 minutes' walk later and walk trails to amazing waterfalls and glorious views and can do a 10K walk on rugged trails that take about 2 hours to complete because they need some climbing or take a similar route on a much easier way and do the same distance in a lot less time. Either way, native wildlife (no koalas though) is everywhere. Yes, Sydney suburbia had the infamous "race riots" of 2005 but things WILL calm down. Back in the 60s there were ethnic groupings that exist to this day but back in the 60s they were very much apart not wanting to mix. Australia's climate and lifestyle have this way of bringing down borders. Those areas exist but no-one is intolerant anymore around there. In another 30 years, people will be wondering what could have been so important.

I'm not really talking about Canada, but being white certainly has its advantages as you found out.
