time.com — Capital punishment has a lot less life in it. Last year saw just 37 executions in the U.S., with only 111 death sentences handed down. Though 36 states and the federal government still have death penalty laws on the books, the practice of actually carrying out executions is limited almost entirely to the south.

It costs millions and millions of dollars to kill a person through the justice system. It is far cheaper to keep them in prison for life. It is not a deterrent. People who kill either do not plan to get caught or do not care about getting caught. It does indeed stop the killer from killing again, and with a perfect justice system perhaps this would be a good enough argument. Sadly no justice system is perfect; innocents have been executed and they will be executed in the future.

That's great. Let's decide what America should or shouldn't do based on what everyone else does. Are we a country of free thinkers or a country of sheep?

@smartassCanuckYou are abusing semantics. We live in a society that believes MURDER is wrong. Murder is defined as the *unlawful* killing of another human being with malice and/or aforethought. By your line of thinking, it must be wrong for a cop to speed to catch another person, because speeding is against the law. But that is not the case. Capital punishment is the law, and therefore is not murder. You do not understand the distinction between crime and punishment.

Police that are found to have planted evidence should be executed.

I do support the death penalty for certain extreme offenses, but it is used WAY too often. People aren't even supposed to be convicted at all if there is reasonable doubt as to their innocence. Look up the case of Troy Anthony Davis. There is reasonable doubt as to his innocence, and he's on death row. Good grief; if there's reasonable doubt, he shouldn't even be in prison.

Sorry but with DNA testing! I have heard it cost more but with a gun and line of fire it is not!

Yeap south will again! I have read and heard it all and as I said we need to do it more! I am sorry but they do not kill people for stealing food, I can say that! So please try the poor tears for someone who wants to hear it!

thats fine to pay to find out. Money is not waste if a person is proved innocent. But if he is guilty then what. He cannot be corrected. Then what. You want to keep feeding a animal.
