nytimes.com — At McCain-Palin rallies, the raucous and insistent cries of ?Treason!? and ?Terrorist!? and ?Kill him!? and ?Off with his head!? as well as the uninhibited slinging of racial epithets, are actually something new in a campaign that has seen almost every conceivable twist. They are alarms. Doing nothing is not an option.

Frank Rich Rocks! He really breaks it down in a way that puts it in historical perspective.

You make me sick. Appeasement and diplomacy are not synonyms. And if diplomacy is good enough for General Patreaeus, the man McCain hoisted up during the debates as "knowing the situation in the Middle East", how come it's not good enough for Obama? I suppose you're one of those "shoot first, don't bother asking questions" type.

If you yell "FIRE" in a crowded theater and people die - it's YOUR fault. Why isn't the same standard true of hate speech used in a campaign. Oh, that's right, McCain's a POW. That must negate every dirty rotten ploy.
