I did several years of "Hardcore" gaming, but these days I fall into the "Devoted" catagory. I've cut my gaming time way down to about 15 hours a week becase of all my other activities, but those 15 hours are spent on one and only one game. Combine that with 10+ years of gaming online, and I simply don't have to try very hard to kick ass, especially at FPS games. I don't regret my Hardcore gaming days, but they were definately an escape for me.One major upside of gaming for me was when I started playing MMORPGs the last few years. I found that I gravitated toward outdoorsman professions such as "Ranger". I also found that I was having more fun adventuring and exploring than I was with PvP combat in MMOs, which is weird since I am a serious FPS gamer. This prompted me to go out and buy a bunch of camping and hiking gear, and get back to nature. It's been an awesome addition to my life, and I thank the mind expanding experience of gaming for helping me realize what I was hungering for.
Pretty good article. Devoted gamer here, devoted to Starcraft and wish I could be devoted to Planescape: Torment (but it seems to lack replayability, but great storyline). Anyways, the article made sense until the last part about worthless gamers, it doesn't seem to fit in with the other categories... The first thing that came to mind when I thought "worthless gamer" were the masses of people who buy things with little gaming value (pretty graphics, hype, bells & whistles etc.), which in turn causes game-makers cater to those folks rather that the true gamers at heart. Instead the article describes "worthless gamers" as those who cheat/hack/whatever which isn't really a level of enthusiasm for gaming at all. That's where I disagree with the article. Idunno, maybe he didn't wanna offend so many people, lol.digg.
Very comprehensive article on the subject of gaming. I am currently enjoying WoW and i still play CS after 6 years :S I would like to say i am a hardcore gamer because i can beat hardcores at most games but i fear i am a devoted gamer due to the lack of game titles.

Interesting. I'm somewhere between a PHC and a Casual gamer. I like to think of myself as just a little more than a casual player.
