I still write letters to my girlfriend who lives about an hour away. It lets me collect my thoughts much easier and she really enjoys getting them from me. Plus, I get to bust out my marker collection and decorate the envelope.

Typing was taught as a kind of remedial class in my high school. I had decent grades, so I got to take band instead.I type every day. My clarinet is mouldering on a shelf in my parents' house.Drat.

I think the classic handwritten letter is on its way out, which I think is a real shame, to me writing something by hand shows that you have tried to make the message a little more personal. I don't whether since now many more people type rather than write, their handwriting has gone to pot anyway. When I was at school they had those bits of paper which had the red and blue lines so you could practice your handwriting to get it ultra neat. I am not sure if they have these in schools anymore ?

It had to happen sooner or later: a handwriting course provided via iPhone application.See bit.ly/BetterLetters for details of handwriting's cyber-comeback.

I can't imagine doing very much serious written work in pencil (some finance work is best done in fine pencil, tbf). Please say it wasn't a chunky pencil, at least?Pencils are for if you assume you'll need to erase and hide your mistakes, as opposed to leaving them there and learning from them.

Not really. In UK "handwriting" means "writing with your hand (and a pen)"

No, if someone hands you something written in crayon that's unprofessional. Neat cursive? No, that's perfectly professional.

And it does, it's a fact. If you can rely on a written record you don't need to memorise it so carefully. Homer, for example, memorised his entire collection of myths and would recite them from memory. After that they would just read the written copy out of the book. And nowadays, just look at what people do with Wikipedia for "seem[ing] to know many things"
