slate.com — The Spanish newspaper El Pa?s recently published the transcript of a conversation between President George W. Bush and then-Prime Minister Jos? Mar?a Aznar on Feb. 22, 2003?a few weeks before the invasion of Iraq?and it confirms some (though not all) of the most dreadful accounts and suspicions about Bush's intentions and nature.

But the President should care about the suffering that he has unleashed upon the world, whether his intentions are noble or not. And if he is a coarse and stubborn absolutist like Dubya, he could at least have the decency to simulate that all that death bothers him.

OH MY GOD, Bush acts on convictions and with confidence? That's HORRIBLE!

What?! Are you f**king stupid. The problem in Burma is that the leaders ARE sure that they are right and are at peace with themselves.

I am afraid I will have to comment further on the stupidness in the "I am an optimist because I believe I am right" to all those who think it's an innocent, meaningless sentence. In their discussion Aznar was asking for the real _REASONS_ why he was so optimistic about the outcome of the iraq invasion. Instead of coming up with a decent argument Bush just utterred that sentence. In other words, he had no valid, logical reason to expect for the war to be ok. He just sincerely (or stupidly) thought that it couldn't go wrong since he was inherently right.
