Such a sad thing to have happened, EarthBound was/is one of my top 3 most favourite games of all time. I just can't say how horrible this news is for all EB fans...it just sucks the bag.
"Nintendo, since the Wii came out, has taken an emotional toll on me. I'm seriously tired of stuff like "Carnival Games," "Cooking Mama," and other shovelware being published"How is this Nintendo's fault? Pretty much all the shovelware being made for the Wii is by third party developers which Nintendo really shouldn't have too much control over (if they did then you would likely be complaining about them abusing that power). The fact that there is shovelware shouldn't really bother any core gamer because we can just ignore it and pick up the "core" games (of which there are plenty). Shovelware sales are dropping while sales of "core" games are on the rise... third party developers go where there is money.Yes, Earthbound isn't coming to the American VC and we can blame the Lawyers at Nintendo of America for that. To be honest however this really doesn't bother me... I live in Australia, I am used to not getting games and chances are that if Earthbound did come to the US I wouldn't have got it here anyway. :(
Man, this game was my youth. I played my copy all the time. No matter how many times I played it I never got bored with it, I laughed at the lame jokes, felt bad for Buzz Buzz, and even felt annoyed by Pokey every single time. What bothers me the most is the fact that Itoi-san seems to have given up on MOTHER.
Sheesh, lots of games have had pop-culture references now and then, Earthbound was just more transparent about it. I even checked out that article on Earthbound Central about the legal issues and what not, and I gotta say that some of the references are rather loose. Anywho, I do think that some long long day away, Nintendo of America will find that the pop culture references are rather old and simply little hat-tips.Man oh man, what disappointment.

Only if copyright holders that would have reason to sue could say "Dude, whatever" as well.

I added some clarification about the legal issues here, for those who are interested: http://earthboundcentral.com/2009/02/earthbound-le ...
