gizmodo.com — The good news is that upgrading to OS X Snow Leopard is going to be pretty cheap for people who wisely sprung cash for Leopard. But before you buy, you better check your situation and plan the right move, money-wise.

If you're running Windows XP or Vista in 32-bit mode, this would be a good time to switch to a Mac, because your 64-bit Windows 7 upgrade options are not just expensive but stink: a clean install is required. You'll have an easier time migrating your files to a new Mac than backing up, upgrading, and reinstalling everything on your PC.Intel Mac users currently running Tiger or Leopard can rejoice that they can go 64-bit painlessly with Snow Leopard. Apple has been much smarter about managing the 32-bit to 64-bit transition for customers than Microsoft.

The real cost? Isn't it common knowledge that when upgrading to a new OS, that it will cost you more if you skip a generation? Someone going from XP to 7 is going to pay the full price of 7. And even Vista to 7 will pay the full price if they didn't not buy it recently (with the free upgrade to 7). So going from Tiger to Snow Leopard will cost the amount expected. It's just apple gave the Leopard users a little treat and dropped the price to $29 for them.
